So I brought home a pregnant platy or molly apparently, because three weeks ago I came home and found only 1 surviving baby. Anyway, we've had him in a breeding tank all by himself and have been feeding him the special "first bites" food. He's doing great, and getting bigger, but still super small (about the size of a large piece of rice). Anyway, we're gone most weekends and I've been able to have a friend check on all the fish, but next weekend we've got nobody. The big fish seem to do fine with not eating from Friday night to Sunday night, or I throw in a vacation feeder if it's a longer weekend, but I am concerned about the fry. How long can they go without being fed? Are there any vacation feeders available for fry? He's obviously a tough little guy since he was the only one that lived being in the tank unprotected and then also through a power failure that killed some of my adults, so I'd hate to lose him to starvation! Please advise. Thanks!

im not sure if there is a feeder for fry,i know what your going through,i had a molly that had a bunch of babies and only one lived and i put him in a breeder net and fed him crushed flakes until he was big enough to not get eaten.then i had to leave for the weekend and i fed him all he could eat when i came back i was scared i was going to find a dead baby, but he was sitting in his favorite cave happy as a clam :p: .im not sure if this will work for your baby but it might, how old is he/she?

I agree. I have bunch of cichlid frys. On my last business trip, I fed them crushed flakes (little more than usual) right before I left. I came back 2 days later and fed them as soon as I got home and they all seemed to be doing fine. I know how you feel. It hurts to think that they will have to go on for few days without eating especially since they are babies. It would best if you can find an alternative solution, but if that's just not possible, I'm pretty sure they will still be fine. Just feed them little more than usual right before you leave, but not so much that there will be uneaten food floating around.
