Hey there

I will be done with the Maracyn 2 treatment tomorrow and my water is really cloudy. Is it ok to get that medicine out of the tank after the 6 days of treatment or do I need to let it sit in the tank a couple of more days???

If I do wc and use a bio filter to remove the meds - will that clear the water up?

Thanks

Bio filter

Your medication likely killed off your nitrifying bacteria, in which case you will have to re-cycle your tank. Daily water changes and carbon/charcoal in your filter are in order untill you get thing back up to speed. A bio filter won't remove antibiotic medications, you need chemical filtration, hence the carbon.

As for the duration of treatment, I have no idea.

I wish those darn Maracyn directions were more clear about that too. Let the tank be for one 24 hour period after that last dose, then do a water change. If your filter has activated charcoal in it, that will also help remove the medicine.

I have never had Maracyn 1 or Maracyn 2 kill off my good bacteria. Not once, I don't think it is just luck, I think that the antibiotics they contain do not effect the bacteria in your aquarium filters and gravel. Never had a mini cycle, or cycle afterwards...

I assume your fish are better? If not, you can repeat the dose if it seemed to help them. Otherwise you are better off switching to a different antibiotic.

My dwarf gourami really wasn't showing improvements and I was concerned about contaiminating the water with parasites so.... I just traded the sick powder blue dwarf in for a flame dwarf.

I now have a hospital/qt tank which the new guy will go in until I know he is safe.

I just need to clean-up/clear up the 10 gallon tank - which will be my main tank. Now that tank has 3 guppies.
