ok i get paid to work with fish i work witrh them on a daily basis but heres my prob i'm at home right now and i just looked at my aquarium and i noticed this clear film alllll over my glass all over everything in the aqaurium except the fish... there is also little whait blotches all over the glass and its rough when i touch it. i've seen algae before many times but this does not look like algae to me . it even moves like a sheet in the wind. its all over the tank i have no idea what it is and would realllly appreciate it if someone could tell me. i have never encountered anything like this before.

Is this on the inside or outside of the aquarium?

I get a whitish film on the glass of my tanks and sometimes there are little "blooms" that flow w/the breeze as you said...Just clean it off w/a sponge. That's what I do. It's never caused a problem. Just make sure you're keeping up on cleaning. I notice it usually when I've been slacking on the housekeeping.

Ahhh...Think I understand now. That's a bio-film--it's basically an overgrown bacteria colony. Not harmful, but it might indicate a problem within the tank. Usually it politely stays within media, like gravel or filter media, but it can expand into other areas if there are nutrients to support it.

yeah well its allll over the entire tank filter heater plants glass but none on the rocks well i have regular aquarium rocks plus rocks from the beach iuse to bring up my ph. (i do boil them before i put them in and wash them with aquarium salt) also orion if it is caused by a prob in the tank what kind of prob could it be my fish are active and swimming not seeming bothered at all. i have to go get a water test done soon to make sure everything is sti;; in good shape hmm well we'll see soon thank-you all for youe input first time i ever saw anything like that but if i scrub it off won't it just re-attach to the glass????

My cichlid tank is infested with white worms, only thing I have found to do is just keep cleaning and home i cut down the population. Everything that eats microworms would get eaten instantly by my fish. Its annoying but doesn't bother the fish at all.
