This afternoon i came home with my new kribensis pair. I am really excited. I had been keeping platys for the past year, they were fun for a beginer fish, but I was growing so board (and annoyed with thier constant begging for food when you come with in 50ft of the tank:D ) I took my brood of 20 platys to the lfs last friday and they had a real colorful pair of kribs, so the guy held them for me so i could get my tank in order( it was in need of a water change and gravel vac) and i went back today to bring them home:D. He even gave me a 10% discount for the platys i brought in last friday;)
Ive got them in a 20g with 4 black tetras and 3 corys, I hope they all get along:p Anyways i just wanted to share my happiness with everyone:D

eeerr..those cories are gunna get beat up while breeding. They kribs need lots of caves. They sound fine in the tank if theres caves..
Hope it works out!!

i do have 2 caves, one large one and a much smaller one that they seem to prefer:p :D . If the corys get to harassed, i do have a 10g they can go to until better arrangments can be made. Oh by the way i forgot about another tank buddy that was in the tank, a black lyre tail molly(male), i had to move him into the 10g because he was trying to get it on with the female krib:D

i had 2 silver lyretails on with my krib pair and they just never could grasp the idea that they shouldnt go into their territory. as a result, they didnt stay 'lyretailed' very long. i had to move them to a 10g where they produced about 1,000,000 babies(theyve since been separarted). i agree that the cories will probably get picked on unless they have adequate hiding space. once the kribs start breeding, youll see the aggression build up some.
i love my kribs, but im starting to get tired of the way they dominate the tank everytime they breed. they had calmed down for a while, but i think that was due to the fact that there were still about 30+ older krib fry in there and they simply got tired of chasing everybody off. i removed all but about 6 or so and the parents just presented what i think is the 7th brood since november yesterday.
theres alot of good threads here concerning kribs. check the cichlid forum as well. another site to try is www.thekrib.com
good luck with your fish.

You only got a 10% dicsount on your purchase for bringing in 20 platies? That sound low. How much did you pay in total?

the majority of the platys were juviniles( dont know if that makes a difference) and the kribs were $8 a piece and i paid $14.40 for the pair. I probably could have gotten them for less maybe, but then i would have had to of drove around going from place to place wasting money on gas;) . Plus , i wasnt really concerned about getting a discount for the platys, i was happy they took them off my hands:D
