Lucky bamboo is not an aquatic plant, if you submerge the entire plant it will die. It needs to have it's leaves above water.

That’s what I meant. I have seen many betta fish aquariums planted with bamboo.

If not bamboo, what type of plants are good? Why are they good? Is it a definite benefit to plant a goldfish aquarium?

plants are good for a aquarium, just make sure you donty get some your goldies would make a snack out of ;).how big of a tank do you have and what kind of goldfish?my guppies used to eat my live plants so i gave up on plants fo a while.
i have water lettuce(floating plant)my pleco nibbles on that, java fern, and another plant that i cant think of the name but its very pretty,i'll look up the plant name and post it here.

I like Peace Lilies, I have one in all three of my tanks and am planning to add another one or two to my 65. They really seem to keep the water clean. And my betta loves to swim through the roots.

i have bamboo in my discus tank, it does not die.

as long as it gets plenty of air to the bottom of the stalk it will not mold. i had one in a substrate planted tank and there was no oxygen in the substrate so the bottom died, but it kept growing. so if you use large gravel it will not die
