not at all live rock is fine under any lighting but bare in mind the better the light the better the result meaning things growing on the rock etc fish are also fine under any lighting some invets can be more picky with the lighting they receive

What is the min tank lighting for a FOWLR or if you anemones no corals? Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.

For nem's your looking at a large amount of PC's, a large amount of VHO's (atleast 4 or 5 four foot tubes for a 55g) or halides.

And yes, you don't really need special lighting for live rock.

Sorry for participating in the hijacking.

When I first got my live rock, I actually left the light off to avoid a higher power bill. I know that prevented much from growing, but I placed it there mostly for the cause of beneficial bacteria; several tiny invertibrates also came out of it. I've just recently started keeping the light on; maybe a few types of dormant algae will start popping-up.
