Guess it's my turn :help:

My largest remaining ebjd (about 5") stopped eating a couple days ago. He's been sitting in one spot for the last day - CRAP! He's obviously not dead yet, because he was plenty po'd when I netted him and put him in the 10g hospital tank!

So... Started with the Prazipro tonight, half-teaspoon which is supposed to act over 5 days, and then repeat if necessary. If I can get him to eat a little, I'll also try a metronidazole (hope I spelled that correctly) soak of the food. The Prazipro says I shouldn't use anything else at the same time, so I'm thinking maybe after the 5 day period ends I'll try Maracin 2 if he's not eating, and the metronidazole if he is. Anyway, wish me luck! :hang:

actully if you suspect parasite I would treat him in the main tank.

are there other fish?

the reason I say this is the parasites may have sluffed out or had eggs and they are in the main tank

the prazi and metro won't kill the eggs. there are meds that will

have you determined which parasite you suspect?

if the prazi and metro don't work star looking for alternative meds..I had parasites in my 75 I finally got the upperhand using levamisole.

good luck

To be honest, I'm not sure WHAT is wrong with him. Ebjds just get sick for no apparent reason, and the sickness doesn't ever seem to effect anything else in the tank. The suggestion has always been that there is some kind of intestinal problem that is responsible, so I'm flying blind here, but trying to do SOMETHING to keep him alive. As I said, I'm going to try parasites first, then bacterial infection, then ...?

Sorry to hear that. Did you already lose your other one. Didn't you have a breeding pair??

Someone made the suggestion to me a long time ago that I feed mine medicaled food once a month or so to prevent internal parasites. I have been doing this and so far (knocks on wood) it has worked. I usually dethaw some bloodworms and dump some metronidazole on them. Let them sit for a couple hours and then feed them.

I hope you are able to save yours.

K got a strange solution.

As you may or may not know I had 7, 1in EBJDs They are now about 2 1/2 in. When they hit 2in I lost 2 of them and it looked like it was going to be 3.
The 3rd fish that stopped eating I gave up hope on it had to be over 2 weeks since he ate. I thought about just flushing him incase there was some kind of parisite. I treated the fish however and nothing happened.

Well I upgraded my tank. At one inch I had them all in a 29 gal while looking for another tank. I moved them to a 45 gal. I was only able to move maybe a 3rd of the water over. Well after the massive water change he still did not eat his normal food but he was swimming and seemed happyer. A few days later I fed the fish brine shrimp. After the problems started he would not eat brine shrimp, but now he will eat it and only eat this brand, Sally's. He is a very picky eater that is all I can say.

I did water changes often they did not work but the move did something. Maybe try moving him to a treatment tank with 2/3 new water?

I have no idea whats going wrong but I don't beleive it's a parisite anymore. I think it might be a genetic flow.

No, not a breeding pair; I have two remaining from a set of three (having lost a single a year previously). The smaller one is still doing fine. Larger one is in the hospital tank. Nothing to report one way or the other so far. Just crossing my fingers!

Yes, I remember your difficulties pretty well. So you still have five of them at 2.5"? I started breathing easier when mine got above 3", but I may have relaxed too soon.

I don't mind "picky", but no fish should allow itself to starve rather than eat the same food it devoured two days before. SOMETHING is clearly wrong...

Well, the fish has been moved, and I'll be staying on top of the water quality. I'm also skeptical of parasites, as I would think that I'd see the other fish being affected too. What's running around in my head is that maybe they are prone to intestinal blockage? I haven't seen any stool from this guy yet, and that worries me. How the heck do you give a fish a laxative?? :sim:

Sorry to note about your problem. My 4 EBJDs all died like that. I read treating them with Melafix and trying Maracyn2. Keep me posted as I would like to help and also know what treatments work... Keep trying to Metronidazole

Sorry about your problem,I haven't lost any or had any problems yet
keeping my fingers crossed.I've been reading about sick blues for a long time
I was wondering if this problem could traced back to a certain breeding pair
and passed along through there off spring

Peas help with constipation, but since yours isn't eating I guess that wouldn't work. But maybe for the others, a weekly treat of a split pea would help-if it's a blockage issue? This is kinda off the wall, but several years ago on another forum I remember a gal talking about how someone at the local aquarium where she lived helped her out with some fish issue she had. Assuming, unfortunately that your fish dies, maybe check the aquarium or something similar by you and see if they can do a necropsy on the fish to find out what's causing all these problems. I've been hearing about issues with these fish since they first came around. Just a thought.......
