Acara is an outdated name still used for many of our beloved cichlids. But why is it outdated?

Acara crassipinnis (Heckel, 1840) is the type species. So what's the big deal, you may ask?

Well, Acara crassipinnis is a junior synonym for the Oscar, either Astronotus ocellatus or A. crassipinnis, depending on whether or not you consider Astronotus to be monotypic.

Just thought that this is a fun fact that you might like to know...we all need useless trivia in times like these!!!
