Its been awhile but i can finally get my 55g tank!!! I'm going tomorrow to petsmart. I'm getting a top fin 55g starter tank kit and im hopfully going to get another filter...possibly an empreor or something. But my question is should i get ammonia to add to my tank to cycle it? Im already going to add a filter from my 10g established tank. The filter is a penguin 150b for 30g. I already have my fish list on what im getting and don't worry i have done a TON of research on compatiblity and stuff of that sort. Any helpful comments are welcomed and thanks in advanced! :thm:

Sounds like you got it all together. lol Only thing I'll add is "Get a Python" if you don't have one already. My largest tank is a 33 and water changes on that are awful!!

I just got my 55g up and running. I got the tank free  and I got a good deal on a stand at petco 40$. I have a AC50 and an Elite 20, which may not be enough filtration. I've done a silent cycle with lots and lots of plants, and seeded the tank by moving the one filter from a 20 to the 55. Today I added the first fish from one of my 20s. It is a dwarf gourami, and he is going CRAZY with the space--darting back and forth and following his reflection in the sides!
You could probably seed your tank from the 10, but I'd add the fish very slowly as you're still cycling just faster with the seeding.
So what fish are going in there? I'm still finalizing my stocking scheme--as now that the gourami is in there, I see how small he looks in all that space!

thanks for the idea about the python
And for my stocking list im going with 3 angels, 1 german blue ram, 6 panda cories, 1 honey gourami, 2 Kuhli loaches... i can't remember everyone of them from the top of my head but generally thats about it.... oh and my silver dollar is going in there from my 10. I thought he would appreciate the more space... :joke: And congrates on your 55g :bday:
