Does anyone know of a lime and calcium deposit remover that is safe for cleaning aquarium hoods and filter housings. I can't get the white deposits and stuff out of the textured parts of the plastic. :rant2:

white vinegar works great. lemon juice might, too (but may be messier? :D ). both are mild acids so will dissolve the hard, alkaline deposits. What they use in commercial lime removers is just strong acid, I believe. So natural acids won't work quite as well, but they're much safer.

also, dipping it in coca-cola for a few minutes works, too. all that cavity-making power can be put to good use!

good to hear. I personally wouldn't have tried the cola, as the sugar would leave a sticky mess! :D
