Nooooooo!!!!!!!! My Mice!!!!!!

my baby mice are dying! one by one! and I don't know why! :sad: they started yesterday, they showed no signs of ill whatsoever. 4 died yesterday, and 1 more died this morning! the 4 left seem to be fine, but I don't know. I can't tell if it's dehydration or hunger due to weaning too early, or what. not to mention their mothe is quite ill, and isn't looking too cool. I had to s eparate the mother from the babies due to this ilness, and I though they were weaned well enough. I fell so helpless........ my precious little mice are dying before my eyes..... what did I ever do to deserve this?!?! :sad: :sad: :( :( :( :(

If there is a question as to whether or not they are weaned, they probably arent. The mother will make it very clear when they are. If there are any babies left alive put the mother back in with them. Whatever shes sick with, shes probably already exposed the babies to and her milk will give them an extra health boost. Whats wrong with her, btw? Was she getting extra nutrition for her gestation/lactation?

If you dont want to put her back in, or cant, find some sm. rodent replacement milk at a god pet store or vet. Use a small eyedropper and be very patient, hopefully you can help more of the little guys. Also try a wide variety of tempting foods and keep water very available.

well she was already at the point where she was driving them away from her mammalaries,and they were eating hard food. now that I preformed an autopsy on one, it seems that they have the same thing as mom, but because they are so little still, they can't fight it off. talked to my vet, she said it's nothing she knew about, and she just said she'd euthanise them for me.... it's alright. they are all dead now.... (starts blubbering) ahem....but the mother may be recovering, but its too early to tell. she seems better, and she has been eating and drinking. all I can do is feed her aloe vera, keep her warm, and hope.

Wow you make me feel bad for what I do to mice....snake owner. Im glad some of them get good care and are loved and that they don't all go for food.

What did you find on the necropsy? Is she a standard white mouse?

im so sorry to hear about the babies:sad:i really hope the mom can pull though,i know it's hard to loose a pet,especialy babies.keep us posted on how the mother does.:(

geez, sorry to hear this, fc.... I know it musta been tough to watch them (or so it would seem) to die like that but chances are, they got it from the mother and if she had it, they all did... good luck on the Mama though, I hope she's strong enough to pull through.

well, it seems to be either a viral or a bacterial infection, not sure which. anyway...... and she is a fawn color, not a standard albino. the mouse seems more lethargic, but healther looking then yesterday. she may be getting better, but... I don't know.

i hope she is getting better,i used to have baby squirles,one of them died and it was horrible.i'll say a little prayer for her, good luck with her FC ;) .

Awe! I am so sorry to hear about your mice! I know you were very excited about them! I wish there were something I could do for you, I'ts heart breaking! ((((((hugs))))))

she died yesterday, same thing as the rest of them.... SIGH... don't worry, I get over emotional loss quickly. they're all gone now.... still get sad every time i see a mouse, though.....

omg fishcatch,im so sorry. :(don't worry. it's just the circle of life. turn turn turn. this isn't the first time i've had something like this happen.... 8 baby ducks die before my eyes, cat died because of me, fry tank wiped out.... i've had so many pets..... these things happen to me all the time..... still hurts, though..... I still have my birds, my fish, and my frog to cheer me up. taekwondo lets me get rid of my rage, and there are so many more worthwhile things to think about out there... I don't like to mope.
