So I have a green tiger barb that has been hanging out behind my water output (like between the glass and bottom lip of my Penguin 350 filter). He is in a 55 gallon tank with other tiger barbs, giant danios, otos and juvenile firemouths.
I recently had an ich infection in the tank that was treated with salt and raised temps which seemed to clear everybody up. The rest of the fish are behaving pretty normally, except that one of the normal tiger barbs has been hiding under the water outlet too, but he comes out and eats without a problem.
Btw, tank parameters are pH 7.1, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate <10 and it is planted.
The green tiger barbs are the smallest of the barbs in the tank and have been looking sick lately. They are breathing rapidly and seem lethargic. One will go for food but just spits it back out. One of them has a thin stomach extending up to behind his gills that is getting thin. If you look at him head on, there is a symmetrical dip between his gills and the rest of his body so he has some sort of figure 8 shape to him.
I've also noticed that two of the green tiger barbs have had some sort of parasite protruding from their anus a few days ago. The worm (if that is what it is) has a long stalk with a thickened bulbous end to it. The whole thing was white in one tiger barb and red in the other tiger barb and stayed on for at least 30 minutes before disappearing.
Thinking it was some sort of parasite infection, I have been treating for two days with Jungle Parasite Clear without any improvement. Today I moved them to a hospital tank to continue the treatment.
Do you guys know what disease or parasite could cause these symptoms? Basically: hiding, rapid breathing, stomach or area behind gills getting thin and not really eating.
Thanks for your help.
