Tetra Color Fade??

I just noticed this, this morning. I don't know how long it's been going on. I thought you guys could enlighten me. Why does my Cardinal, and Rummynose Tetra's red color fade at night.

It seems to start coming back within about 10-15 minutes.

As I understand, the Rummynose Tetra's red color fades when they get stressed. But why would sleeping stress them out?

my fish do that, too, at night. Even some of my nocturnal bottom feeders. They always have, and stay pale all night. I don't think they're necessarily stressed out. I think maybe it's just a defense mechanism to help them look more washed out at night, to blend in with the moonlight or something?

But it's normal, as far as I know. Almost all my fish do it, and they're positively thriving!

i think its more to conserve energy.
what use will bright blue and red colors have if its pitch black?

my Black Phantom Tetras look absolutely gorgeous at night for some reason. the males get really Jet Black in color and theres that spot right behind their gills that turn grey/silver and sky blue. The females glow black and red. after a while, when they are asleep, their colors become more drained and their bodies are almost transparent.
