I set up a 5 gal a while ago. I would like to add some stock to it. Something that has color, interesting to watch?

I always said that I would setup a tank devoted to a nice school of neons with some driftwood and plants. Put on a 50/50 light to bring out the colors of the fish and add an otto cat in there for cleanup.

Anyone think this woud look alright? If so how many neons would I be able to have?

This would be a heated tank, if there are any other small fish recommendations throw them my way.... :hi:

I am into my saltwater big time, 20+ years in the freshwater hobby and would just like to add a nice small tank to our living room area.

Oto's are great algae eaters for small planted tanks (I have 2 in my 20G). They are schooling/sociable fish so you would need to get two.

Okay, we are going to skip the 5 gal. Skip the thought of cichlids in the 10 gal and go with a nice array of tetras. This 10 gal will have a nice piece of driftwood and some live plants.

Current thoughts are:

2 cory cats
1 otto cat
school of neons
school of other tetras

Any other suggestions for a nice array of movment and color would be greatly appreciated..... :hi:
 
It would be better to go for one larger school of neons (maybe 8 or so), 4-6 SMALL cories (like pandas or sterbas; don't get larger ones like bronze or peppered), and 2 otos. If you got 2 schools you would have to cut down on numbers and the fish wouldn't school so well.

If you want something colourful in a 5 gal there are loads of possibilities - bettas, sparkling gouramis, endlers, possibly a Chinese firebelly newt...
 
that sounds like it would be a good tank, the tetras would school better if just having the one type. neons are allways good there are also black neon tetras or cardinals.
