Right now I am dealing with some sick fish in another tank. So, I’m not going to be doing anything really soon, but I just got a nice 29 gal and stand for my birthday. I think an angel fish would make a lovely center piece. I was wondering about suggestions for how many to get and what other good tank mates might be.

If I were to get an angel it would be a juvenile, and I would not be able to tell the sex. So, the chance of getting a pair will be slim.

I think a single one would probably fine, I would probably plant ot heavily.
other tank mates would prob be a group of tetras maybe blue emporer tetras.
Or maybe just a pair of Angels on there own? I remember once i managed to get a pair and they actually layed eggs and they hatched but never made it.

Thnx flag

I think I would go with one angel myself. I think I would get the tank set up and established and add the angel last. As for tank mates possibly a bristlenose plec if you can get one of the smaller species or a handful of corries for the bottom. After that you may want to have a schooling type fish in the tank also.

I will most likely move in some corys from another tank

Angels get along well with neons...usually. If the Angels are big enough though...chomp.

Think i'll stay away from the neons, maybe a larger tetra but I think I'll leave most of the mid-level space for the angels.

you could try damonds if you can find them for a good price... the petsmart around me sells them for around $5.
lemons and black skrits would work well too.

I really enjoy having a pair of angels and all the rest peaceful bottom/algae eaters. The Angels are quite big and without a doubt the dominant fish of the tank, however; watching a mated pair (mine are spawning for the first time now) is just fascinating and really all you need in that size tank. I'll be upgrading very soon thankfully and all I have are pandas and 2 SAEs who are really mellow. Plus there are so many different breeds to choose from with lots of beautiful coloring. Anyway, cool birthday present, enjoy whatever you decide to do :)

I would love to have two. My main worry is what if there are two males. My father kept angels when I was a child, but I have not had any experience with them since. I know breeding pairs can be territorial and bullish, but would two males or even two female be likely to fight? I’ve heard some mixed messages about angel behavior. Three seems like a very troublesome number, and I would not be comfortable having any higher a number than that in the tank.

I'm no expert but I don't think you'd have a problem with a pair of same sex angels, you might have just enough room for each to have his/her own space. You can also order a mated pair on-line and probably get a better selection of breeds (shipping stinks but still).
