Needless to say, this is a newbie post.

1 cory, who seemed perfectly fine, died 2 days ago after displaying symptoms of swim bladder problems. Now another cory is acting the same and I'm afraid will not make it. Also, maybe unrelated, 2 otos and another cory have become inactive and have not really moved from their spots.

Also, noticed a bloom of what I presume to be algae -- some are minute brown clusters while most are dark "residue" on the java fern, driftwood and other plants.

Recently introduced baby tears and an additional light source -- a regular CF in a desk lamp -- while I await a new twin bulb hood.

Need expert advice quick!

if the tank is fairly new the brown stuff is just algea do a few water changes like 15-20% a day for a while and then 15-25% water changes a week, as for your sick fish ?
