When fishless cycling a tank, can snails be in there?

yup

as long as there is a source of food for them. Snails are not harmed by nitrites or ammonia as I have read several times. Many people use them to keep their QT tank active.

Snails can and will survive a cycle. It is not the most humane thing to do but they will do just fine. They ARE affected by long term exposures of poor water conditions and it will eventually become fatal. Most snails have a gill and a lung so if the water quality is bad the will climb to the surface and breathe oxygen. If the water quality is horrible they will actually climb all the way out of the water.

I agree with Mr SnailZ cycling with snails has potential risks and is unnecessary. Technically you can cycle with fish in tank and they will survive, however it seems unethical because of the potential risks involved. Since we can cycle a tank without taking these risks, be it to a fish or a snail, it seems unnecessary and unethical to do so.

i was just wondering because if i add them later after the cycle, i thought the fish in the tank may harass them too much... but i dont think i will have them in my tank during a cycle.

why would you want to add snails in the tank thats cycling?

I had a snail "magically" appear during cycling.
