Well, after months of searching I finally found out what one pod of my Peacocks are--HYBRIDS!! They are OB Peacocks, a cross between unknown peacock and mbuna (several variations). I started wondering as the males grew. their body shapes were a bit different, and their vertical stripes broke up into calico-like patches. I'll post pictures tonite, got a long day at work. The dominant male is handsome. Hmmm. No wonder the lfs just called them "Kaleidoscope Peacocks"--they didn't want folks to know they were hybrids, I guess. Hmmm. Moral implications. I've got 7 fry from them. Hmm. Separation as soon as sex is determined for shore. Hmmm. Oh well. Just thought I'd post, as it hit me unawares. I knew they were peacocks. At least the P. steveni are true. Hmmmm. Again, pictures tonite. :thud:

I apologize for fuzzy quality of pix; my camera shutter is slow and hand has a tremor. This is Leo, the dominant male of 3 (1 female--1 died after 2 litters)--he's around 4", and really beautiful when displaying. Colors shift to orange and shimmery blue.
