I'm about to order a SS Maristar and have the option of swapping the default bulbs.

Would I better of getting a 6500K bulb and a pure actinic, or the two actinics that come standard.

Thanks.

Stay with the pure actinics. When your MHs or on, they'll combine for a nice crisp white and you'll have a lovely neon show when the MHs are off during the dawn/dusk effect.

What MH bulbs do the Maristars come with now?

6500K lamps are for growing FW plants. Much too yellow for SW.

The MH bulbs are pretty good. :look:

But don't bank on it alone.

While I'm on the marine subject, avoid "Red Sea" saltmix!
Some of the packs are ok while others are badly mixed causing massive problems for those who did not read the old SF-15 report. Even "Corallife" have been said to be using unreliable blending machines resulting in inconsistency problems from batches to batches.

Aquacraft (USA) is using the same technique as many of those expensive German manufacturers have been using. Of course for those who want laboratory grade quality, it is frequently hard to go past saltmix from SERA, etc.
