I've had my reef tank for over a year now and i still can't get any algae to grow on the tank walls. My live rock also has minimal algae growth on it. What can i do to give my algae a jump start?

I assume you want coralline algae to grow (the pink stuff).
Get a good test kit and test your Alk, Ca and pH to ensure they are within acceptable ranges.

Any old PC light should be OK for simply growing coralline.
