Hi all.
I have been wondering if any of you have ever used something other than an actual aquarium to house your fish. I have been planning to get a large aqaurium for my oscar and common pleco. I want to get a canister filter as well to provide good filtration. If I were to use some sort of new water trough and build a cover and stand for it, it would save several hundred dollars which could be spent on filtration. I would eventually get a real aquarium, a large one because my 2 irridescent sharks and 3 clown loaches will be large enough to coexist with him by then.
My boyfriend has a farm and we were looking at his donkey's water trough.. just sounded like a decent idea. He had also mentioned a barrel but I think my fish need to swim side to side rather than up and down. Would be hard to build a top for a sideways barrel
I could use the containers later.'someday' when I hopefully get to breed some fancy fish.. I know there are some who prefer their privacy.
I worried about my fish not being able to see out the sides but he reminded me that in a lake or pond the fish can't see out either.
What do you think?
Sarah
