I've been feeding my Dwarf Gourami 1 defrosted Pea, without the shell, once a day in the hopes of kickstarting his intestines. He hasn't pooped much at all, and his belly is bloated a little bit.

I defrost the pea, deshell it, try to cut it up into small pieces. He takes a piece into his mouth, then spits it out, takes it back in, spits it out. Repated ad-nauseum. Is he rejecting the pea? Should I mash them instead of just cutting them up?

Blanching? What is that?

just cooked real lightly in water. I throw veggies in a coffee mug of water and microwave for a minute or so. It really helps fish realize it's "food". :)

Alrighty, that seems easy enough. So I should just defrost the pea, microwave it in some water for a minute, then peal it and dice it up for him?

you probably wouldn't even need to defrost it. The microwaving will do both cook and defrost pretty quickly :)

Yeah, I dice up a bunch of them for my fish and they love 'em! I was surprised even my meat-eaters went for them right away.

Awesome! Thanks so much!! Hopefully he'll take to the newly prepared Peas. :)

I put them in a mug too, but I pour boiling water on them instead of putting them in the microwave. Then I pop them out of their "skin" and mash them between my thumb and finger.

Freeze-dried daphnia give the same results and are often more palatable to a finicky eater. Hikari makes a good product. Best of luck!!

oh, yeah, forgot about that one, Rosita! Good call :)

Just make sure you soak them in tank water first to get them to sink. Otherwise, eating them from the surface and swallowing air can make the constipation worse.
