Paku's 10g Nano (56k warning)

Heya all,
After allot of research, I have decided to take the plunge into a nano reef. This is my first attempt at a marine tank. I used the AC110 Mod from Reef_dude76's thread on Reef Central. Currently it is still cycling (only 2 days old). I don't have my lights yet, but I plan to get a 20" 80w 50/50. It is cycling with a 20w 50/50 power compact atm.

Base rock: 3lbs
Live rock: 10-12 lbs of newly shipped Caribbean un cured.
Live sand: 20lbs

Stocking plans:
1-2 True Percs (tank bred) Would a pair of Percs be ok in a 10g?
or
1 True Perc (tank bred)
Watchman goby / Pistol combo

Both of those list would include a Peppermint Shrimp and of course cleanup crew.

I am not sure yet on what corals I will go with.

Bad Hitchikers found on day one include:
1 Mantis Shrimp (1") Scary little bugger that attacked my tongs, very strong for being so small.
2 little hairy crabs (Gorrila I think from browsing thru the threads)
1 small Welk

All have been removed. My LFS didnt want the Mantis, and my GF said no more tanks... (have 3 already) :(

You could do a pair of percs in a ten but, you'd have to stay on top of your water parameters but I think you could probably manage. It would take a little more work but, that's part of the fun ;).
How deep is your sand bed ? You might consider throwing a handfull of small shells or even a very small amount of crushed coral to the sand so that they can have a little help with their tunnels.

oh, very nice tank lovely live rock. I couldn't see a clam in the pic I see a tube worm or vermatid at the top of the rock @ the bottom.

Sand bed is only 1" to 3" at random points, Ya I dont mind doing xtra work on the tank, but i may just go with one Perc anyway. The whole rock in that pic is acually the clam, he is an old encrusted thing lol, but he does open up and filter my water a little :p. Thanks for the reply.

Updated the rockwork to suit a piece of coral I found on the LR. I like this a little better.

You'll need to feed the clam pleanty of phyto to keep it healty . what sort of coral was it? Feeding a phyto will also help a lot of the other filter feeder in your tank establish and spread ,"maybe."
You might consider another inch or two of sand it will help denitrify and it'll give you shrimp more room to dig.

I TOO HAVE SOME CLAMS EMBEDDED INTO THOSE LIVE ROCKS WHICH HAVE SURVIVED SINCE I GOT THEM (2 YEARS OLD NOW).

THERE ARE SO MANY FACTORS THAT COULD CAUSE A DISASTER OR CAUSE AT LEAST A HEADACHE WHEN TRYING TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY REEF TANK.

ONE MAJOR PROBLEM BUT SURPRISINGLY LEAST TALKED ABOUT IS THE QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY OF MARINE SALTMIX SOLD ON THE MARKET TODAY.

JUST DON'T BUT OPENED SALTMIX PACKS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY TRUST THE DEALER.

JUST 2 YEARS AGO, THERE WERE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS TRACED BACK TO SOME MARINE SALTMIX.

RED SEA, AZOO, OCEANSALT AND SOME MARINE SALTMIX SOURCED FROM CHINA ATTRACTED THE MOST COMPLAINTS.

MOST DEALERS WILL TELL YOU THAT MAYBE YOU DID NOT PREMIX THE SALTMIX PROPERLY BEFOREHAND OR MAYBE YOU DID NOT WASH YOUR HANDS PROPERLY BEFORE DIPPING YOUR HANDS INISIDE THE TANK, ETC, ETC.
BUT IF YOU DID ALL THOSE THINGS RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND EVERYTHING WAS ALLRIGHT BEFORE THAT, THEN IT IS SAFE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE NEW SALTMIX YOU PURCHASED WAS THE CULPRIT.

FOR THOSE WANTING VERY HIGH QUALITY MARINE SALTMIX, TRY SERA MEERSALTZ OR AQUACRAFT OR EVEN TROPIC MARIN. THESE ARE THE PREMIUM PRODUCTS AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET TODAY.

ALSO DON'T FORGET TO ALWAYS MAINTAIN YOUR FILTRATION SYSTEM AND ENSURE PROPER OXYGENATION TO ALL CORNERS OF THE TANK.

I got this out of the "crap" $4 a lbs LR section at my LFS and just threw it in. I didnt know what it was but it seems to be comming back to life. Anyone know? Maybe a dead Candy Cane comming back? Also it has allot of new polyps growing on it.. i dunno if its a diffrent coral or not.
