OMG! She unplugged their life support systems because she thought they were using too much electricity? I would be :mad2:

Aiy yay yay. How could you not realize that those things are needed to keep them alive?? Sorry, mum, but that was silly.

WOW, Sounds like your mom didn't really care for the tanks. I myself would be sent over the edge with this one. Does she know how much money you probably stuck into the tanks? I'm truely sorry for your loss.

What is wrong with your mother! This almost sounds spiteful. I read in the marine section too what happened. Your mother needs to be educated on what it does take and not take to run aquariums. Aquariums are relatively cheap to run in comparison to all the other things in our everyday living that we take for granted that run on electricity. Those being the refrigerator, the dishwasher, the washing machine, our computer set ups...I can't even tell you where I would be with this as far as your mother is concerned. Does she not understand that she suffocated all of your fish? You must be truly heartbroken. I am so sorry for your losses. Truly I am.

That stinks bigtime! I'd be FURIOUS!

Does she know how much money you probably stuck into the tanks?

Maybe you should ask your mom for all the money she "saved" on electricity so that you can buy new fish...

Sorry to hear about that! How long were you away? I hate to say it, but it's hard to believe that someone could be so totally clueless. Most uninformed people would overfeed or not change the water, but messing with the equipment seems to me to be way over the top and out of character. If you know someone values a thing, and you don't really understand that thing, you'd be afraid to screw things up and tend to err on the side of doing nothing rather than doing something wrong. I can't shake the feeling that mom has been pissed off about the time, effort, and money you're putting into the tanks, and "expressed" her disapproval. I doubt she realized that the fish would die, but this seems to me to be more than just an accident stemming from ignorance. The alternative is that mom actually IS clueless! Anyway, very sorry about your losses.

I think that's one of the added difficulties in keeping an aquarium when your young. It almost sounds to me like your mom doesn't want you to have the aquariums in her house. Her way of going about it is definatly diplorable though.

wait she said they dont need that stuff in the wild?

well in the wild they:
1. live in naturally warm tropical waters, heaters are needed in a tank
2. arent trapped in a glass cage, with their own crap, the ocean/lake/river takes care of it, filters are needed in a tank
3. in the wild, the water just doesnt not move, and become stagnant, (ever hear of waves) a powerhead/filter is needed
4. airators are needed (for reasons also listed in #3)

sorry about the loss
