another question i have is was i supposed to take the metal and foam off from around the roots? (by "roots" i meen bottoms cause there was no roots) when i did it was hard to get the plants to stay in

O ya and i need help on my plants when i got there JAVA FERN was 15 bucks! for just the one java fern and NONE of the other plants i wanted were there! so the guy told me to get a ROTALA, NAMOPHYLI SIAMENSIS, and one plant from a asst. for sale I HAVE NO idea what this plant is.

yes, remove the rock wool (the foamy stuff around the bottoms). It's full of nutrients, because the plants are grown in that stuff without soil. If you leave it in your tank, it will lead to massive algae blooms. It happened to me, and I found out the hard way.

Also, if you leave the plants bunched up with the metal weights, it can lead to the stems rotting. They need a little space around each stem to allow them light and circulation. Just try planting each stem in the gravel. I had a hard time getting mine to stay down, too, until they started growing roots.

I am not sure which rotala the store guy was referring to. The only rotalas I know have the scientific name "Rotala ..." like Rotala rotundifolia (used to be Rotala indica).

The Rotala has red and green colours
