the leaves on my sward ( short one ) are falling off. i feed my plants potassium, flourish, trace as it states on the bottles. it sits in eco-complete gravel. the lights are upgraded for about two months to 104W over my 55 gallons tank. all other plants, all are some sort of crypts, are doing good and growing well. i do have algae problem, but i think it's due t not that many plants, i'm waiting for them to spread, which the are but slowly. please, help

what about the co2? looks like your adding ferts and have good light. if your not adding co2 i would start right away.

i had to toss the plant away because it looked like it was rutten. i don't add co2, but i got the plant from somebody who had it for some time without any additions and the light bulb wasn't even for plants. another dwarf sward still o.k. and not loosing leaves yet. actualy, everything else also looks good, including anubias. due to all the changes and additions that i've made with the help of everybody here, my plants haven't had any yellow leves and grow nicely. but what's up with the rotten plants? it's the third one so far, but please note that all 3 plants were given to me by someone who had them for about 6 months. i had them for about a month. i also want to note that i did two black outs for two days for algae control. i don't have problem with plants that i bought, only with those that were given to me, and i still have two of them and one came around nicely and has new leves, but it came in with two black leves. another sward stop having black leves and perky but doesn't have new leves and roots still short.

sounds like you have too much light without enough co2 or something maybe ...?

as you add more light the more the plants will grow and need ferts. plants usally need co2 in the higher light tanks. as you put more light they start to use up the ferts in the water and you have to add some more. try adding diy co2 or get some excel you might be surprised at your growth.

i do have lots of nitrates and i tried to add carbon before, but it looked like my nitrates went up when i started to add carbon, the excel. is it coincidence or carbon would make nitrates go up? i have prety good amount of fish, so i was under impressure that both would aid each othe in natural balance.
