Hi everyone,

Will my light be sufficient for a maxima clam?

I have a 72 gal bowfront. The lighting is 2x150 watt HQI sunpod (current USA). There is no supplemental light.

The bulbs are 14k, and are around 5 inches above water level. The clam would be roughly 12 inches below the surface, directly under one bulb, on the rockwork.

The water clarity is pretty high I think. The only filtration is a Euro CS8-2 skimmer. (related question, when skimming this much, does occasional carbon even improve clarity? If so, I will do this too...)

If the consensus is that I have not enough light, one option I have considered is to put a 10k bulb on one side of the tank (for the clam), with a 14k or 20k on the other. Will this be necessary? Will it even do enough?

Thanks!

tank paramaters:

ammonia 0

~65 pounds LR

inhabitants:

sebae anemone
mated maroon clowns
hippo tang (still young)
mandarin goby
cleaner shrimp
trumpet coral
12 hermit crabs
25 nassarius snails
4 turbo snails

You should be fine as you are......good luck. Clams are interesting, colourful and great inhabitants. Just make sure that if you get one that is under 3-4 inches you will need to supplement it's feeding. Once they are over that size they are photo dependant.
