My krib pair spawned in my community tank despite not having a cave. The other night I saw them guarding about a dozen fry from curious rainbows and plecos, but all the fry got eaten overnight. Since then the male krib has been pale and hides in the top corner of the tank by the powerhead. Is this a reaction to losing the fry, or could he be sick? He was healthy and very colorful with the fry and nothing has changed in the tank since they were eaten. Thanks for any help! ps..the female is acting fine.

He may be sick. Keep an eye on him to make sure he doesnt get worse. All the other fish seem ok? What are you water parameters?

it sounds to me like the female has detached herself from the male (the pair bond has been broken since there are no fry to guard) and now keeps the male it arms length so to speak. she may continue to do this until she's ready to spawn again.
