Sand

I just finished a DIY fluidized bed filter and the only sand I can get is Play Sand from Lowes. Someone had suggested coral sand but thats pricey I've been thinking of using glass beads as in sand blasting. Does anyone know if a Maxijet 1200 powerhead is enough to make this bed filter work. Thanks
