Going on vacation this winter and wondering.
I have an automatic feeder, and will be setting it up. But if it fails for some reason, how long can fish go without food before becoming sick or whatever?
I will be gone for 2 weeks. I have set the timers up before with no problems, but I am always nervous.
There is a 8" Jack, 2- 5" tinfoil barbs, and a convict in the tank.
Thanks

fish can go a week without feeding, I'm not sure about how 2 weeks would be. I've never used automatic feeders before, personal preference though, I just don't trust them. Don't you have someone that can come and feed them a couple times during your absence?

yes. I could have someone come over a few times. but sometimes I would trust the auto feeder better then the person!

I went away one time and was left to depend on someone else for the feeding. Like you, I was nervous about them being fed too much and being fed the wrong thing, here is what I did. I put 5 squares of tin-foil on a table and mixed whatever food I wanted, crushed and everything over each square and then closed it up. Eachg tin foli piece was then taped onto the side of the fish tank. Each day the fish were to be fed, the person took 1 tinfoil, opened it and dispersed it into the tank and Whala.... all was good. Worked like a charm.
