I have a 10g that all the fish died, it's been without fish because nitrites and nitrates were off the charts. Since it's been so long without fish do I need to start the cycle over by adding ammonia? There is a snail in there with bunches of babies, eek! But he's not doing anything for cycling is he?

It's been about a week, I just did about a 75% water change and I'm going to test it tonight.

Chances are very good you will need to cycle the tank if it has been empty for a week.

You also need to address your water change schedule so you don't have more casualties in the future.

My water changes were fine, the problem was the filter stopped working.

Ok, filter went ka-put. It happens...

Yeah, thankfully I sorta know what I'm doing now after coming here :p:
