My pond snail has been laying eggs like crazy and soon there will be tons of snails in my tank! I'll keep a few but I was thinking of releasing the rest in an actual pond behind my house. Good idea? I don't want to feed the snails to my fish, I just can't do it.

Releasing any captive animal into the wild can spread diseases, parasites and the like into the wild. Not a good idea. I suggest scraping, drying and trashing the eggs if you cant feed them to your fish, or you certainly will be overrun with snails! In future, feed more sparingly and vacuum the gravel alot to keep the snail population in check.

You could post in the classifieds offering snails for free to people who will reimburse you for shipping. There are people that like to get them to feed to fish that eat them. I actually dispose of them in the trash. Yep, I'm a snail killer. Better than ruining the eco system in my neighbornoos by releasing the.

There's been no food in the tank for a week because there's no fish in there, but I guess the eggs were laid before that. The eggs are being laid on the sides of the tank on on the plants and such so I'm not sure vacuuming the gravel would help, although I do do that! :) Going forward I'm going to scrape any egg sacs I find and dispose of them pronto, lol!

A pond is different from a river, its closed in.... so how is it "the wild"?
