hey, is there any way to tell the difference between mystery snails and other apple snails just by looking at them. I don't want to risk my plants. I haven't bought a snail yet, but I plan on it and I would prefer to get one now than waiting for the LPS to get some Ramshorns (could take weeks or longer)

I could try puting them in a seperate tank and seeing if they eat plants in there, but unfortunately I don't have one.

any help would be appretiated, even if the answer is no.
thanks!

Well...I know that there are mystery snails that stay about the size of golf balls, maybe a bit bigger. Then there is a species of apple snail that is about the size of a softball. I've had mystery snails eat my plants....and not dying or dead plants...healthy ones....Needless to say he too a quick trip for eating my plants.

Yes go for brigs (Pomacea bridgesii) not (Pomacea canaculata) both are sold at pet stores as "mystery snails" or "apple snails". Brigs will not eat live plants, EVER. Canas will make quick work out of just about any plant you throw at it.

Hey...Mr snailz...my question is..how big to mystery snails get....also how can you tell male from female?
