In looking at someone's tank on these forums, I noticed their thermometer was placed at the bottom part of the tank. I placed mine at the upper part of the tank because it was more accessible to me there. Does it matter where the thermometer is located in order to get the correct temperature?

depends on your water movement, but its always good to have it away from the heater. i have mine about halfway down, where my fish hang.

Midlevel, at the opposite end as your filter outflow. (heaters fit nicely under the filter outflow)

if the heater on my tank is in an area of high waterflow, i put it near the heater as then i can adjust the temperature that its set at eaiser, and the high waterflow insures that the rest of the tank is about that temp, if the heater is in an area of low waterflow, i place the thermometer in an area of high waterflow
