Cloudy Water

HELP!!! I have had my 55 gal tank for over a year now. I haven't had any problems before like this. I use algone and replace it every two weeks. I purchased some plants and fish from my local shop and now my water is so cloudy. I have tried everything. Water changes, clear water and other products. I thought it might be the plants that I purchased so I threw them out. The water is still extremely cloudy. I can barely see the fish. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem? I would really appreciate the help.

how often do you do your water changes?
most likely its a bacterial bloom, no biggie, it will dissipate on its own. And stop putting chemicals and stuff in your tank!
 
FYI - having your tank right in front of a brightly lit window is a recipe for disaster.

I'm gonna be moving the tank to a different area of the room. Hopefully not having it in front of the window will solve the problem. I also do cleaning and water changes every week.

I just went thru the same thing. Thought I would try a planted tank for the first time, bought a lot of plants and added them to my tank and by the next morning my tank was cloudy. I thought it was a bacterial bloom but it never cleared. I tried large water changes with no luck, added a power filter, removed the plants etc. Finally, after a lot of reading, I tried phos-x phosphate remover and my tank is staying clear! I also used algone with no luck.

Thanks for the advice. I moved the tank and did a couple of water changes. The tank is now gorgeous. :clap: Thought I'd show you.

Tank + high light = cloudy green water. It's green water algae. If you can't move the tank or whatnot, just do a blackout. Tape two layers of black garbage bags over the tank for 3-5 days. Try not to peek, but check on it after days 3, 4, and 5. Mine cleared. I have a planted tank and now I'm religious about water changes and dosing fertilizers. =)
