We have 2 male gouramies. One is a powder / cobalt blue and one is the fire red. I have been hearing the fire red is semi agressive and the blue is peacful. Now...our blue one is a major bully towards all fish in our tank! Our neighbors also have a couple and their blue one is the same way  We have had one before that was very peaceful....

40 Gallon hex tank - do we take the blue gourami out and put him in our 30 gallon with our 8 tiger barbs and 4 platies?

Thanks!

Gouramis and tiger barbs do not go together! The barbs would eat the gourami alive, even if he is a bully.

Dwarf gouramis can have serious attitude--which is only increased when in the presence of others of their own species. You might get a ten gallon for the bully to go into.

I've never heard anything about bullying being different in the various color morphs--my sunset dwarf is a bully.

My classic Dwarf Gourami was a bully as well, until his tankmate died. He now lives alone in a 10 gallon.

About the tiger barbs...I didn't think they would, but figured I'd ask:) Somone wanted to throw him in with our African cichlids, but I'm not thinking that's a good idea either. I'm also thinking of getting a new ornament for hiding in the tank...not sure though.

I think gourami aggression has a lot to do with tank size.

As I've stated before I have 7 assorted gourami in my 180 community tank and have no aggression issues. I have regular and dwarfs, male and female. I also have very tall plants and floating plants that break up the line of site.

I think it depends on the individual fish and the other fish who can diffuse agression--I have a single dwarf gourami in a 55g tank with 5 corys--it is densly planted, but the gourami still manages to pick on the corys. Even going so far as to sneak into their cave to pick on them.
