20g High. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, pH 8.4. Temp 78-80F.
Set up about 11 days ago w/ seeded material.
Fake plants, decor for hiding. Bare bottom.
Molly (2" long) added to tank 7 days ago with 8 fry (no other inhabitants). Looks about to pop. Very square abdomen.
Not eating for 3 days. Mucoid secretions. Much less active. Sometimes slightly tilted (tail up) at about 5-10 degree angle on bottom of tank. Found 1 not fully formed fry today.
I've seen 1 birthing by another molly. She was active and eating all the way up to giving birth. I'm not sure if this molly is going into labor (not a good thing if the one fry she popped out is still not ready to be born though she is huge and square) or if she has parasite problems as well. Can't really tell about the gravid or moving eyes etc. She is all by herself in the tank now.
Should I treat ? I have metronidazole tablets, which I've read is pretty benign to use, to crush and dissolve (250mg/10g?). Is the good bacteria anaerobic or aerobic ? Just wondering if metronidazole will kill them.
The reason I'm worried is because I had a parasite problem in the 40g tank about a month ago and this fish was exposed to that for about 1 week before I qt the sick ones. None of the sick ones survived - possible parasites or tb (though I highly doubt tb - necropsies of all 4 that died showed no apparent abnormalities, no granulomas). I did not do a wet mount because I couldn't get to a microscope right away. :[
Thanks for any advice.
