Ok, so im a bonehead and forgot to plug in the heater after my water change on wednesday. Yesterday morning the tank was at 65 and low and behold, the betta in the floating breeder looks like a salted pretzel. One of my Beunos Aries Tetras is coated pretty well too. So, started the salt treatment, temp is at a CONSTANT 84 degrees. 1 Drop of quick cure ick treatment (the blue stuff) in the betta floater. THe BA tetra is doing just fine, but the betta is sitting at the surface refusing to eat. I can take him out and use a mason jar for the time being, but it wont be temp controlled-advice on this?

A fish can go quite awhile without eating so I wouldn't be too worried about that. I would keep him in the main heated tank for now with the elevated salt levels. Water changes are also going to be a key thing. I would be doing them as often as possible, adding back the amount of salt you removed during the change.

One thing to note, you have 2 flying foxes. I did as well and I can say thata 29 gallon tank isn't enough for two once they start to mature. They are fine when younger but can get aggressive with each other. You may need a new home for one in the future.

Yeah the foxes are a temp solution for the beard algea i had, they will be going back to my LFS for some small cories in the next month or two.

anyone else, feel free to chime in here...sick fishies

Sorry if this is a dumb question but how would having the water in your aquarium dropping to 65 cause an outbreak of ich? Were you in the process of treating ich already? ;)

no im sure its in there, but the drop in temp for the tropics stressed them out enough to allow the darn parasite to get a foothold, or whatever it holds with. At least thats what im figuring.

When I had ick I just t urhned the temp up and it went away without salt *shrug*
