The pond with some Triops
I searched for topics on "white mold on driftwood". They were all fuzzy mold. My driftwood has a spot that's white, but not fuzzy. I'll try to get a pic. What should I do? I called live aquaria but they told me to boil it for 5 mins. But I found out that boiling it removes the thing where it turns the water brownish. Does it also remove the thing where it lowers pH?

btw, My driftwood floats. I put some gravel on it to keep it down.

live aquaria told me that just a piece of my driftwood is dying. ...?

i heard about sandpapering the driftwood  ? I REALLY need the driftwood in my tank. And if I boil it, it'll stop releasing the thing that discolors the water (because I need it..)? If I boil it, will it also stop it from lowering ph? Btw, my white spot doesn't look like that... It's just a whole circle that's white... I'll try to get a pic, but the driftwood doesn't look like boofish2's. I'm going to try and boil it, hope that it's just a different kind of mold. Btw, can I put in a snail? My pH is neutral. I'm planning on apple snails and I have tetras in the tank (back neon, silver tip, greenfire, and soon neons!).

That which colors the water is tannic acid. Yes, it lowers pH, and yes, boiling will make it release faster.

Your driftwood is dying????? Find a new source for information. You were talking to an idiot. If a piece of a tree falls in land, it's deadwood. When it's in the water it's driftwood. Either way, it's dead.
