Hey Guys,

I haven't been on in quite a while. I have a 55 gallon tank it's been up and running for over five months. All water params are fine, etc. I bought some new fish and two days later one was dead when I woke up and there was a perfect circle missing from her stomach with babies exposed. She had shown no prior signs of anything. My tank is ICH FREE, that I"m sure of. Been there done that unfortunately. I don't know if she died and her stomach was eaten due to someone eating her babies after she died or what. Anyway it's been about a week I would say and now this morning my swordtail isn't well. He has white mucus looking stuff coming from one eye and around the very outsides of his fins appear to have lost some color almost looking clear. They don't look as if they are rotting. My husband is bringing me home some fungal medicine I can't remember the name it starts with a P. He's also looking for some medicated food for me. I did a 50% water change this morning put BK (the swordtail) elsewhere and added some table salt. I don't know if salts help this or not. I think it's cute he's my 5 year old sons fish and he named him Brave Knight so we call him BK. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I am leaving Monday for a week. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Is there any way you can post a pic of BK ? It could be a number of things. How much salt did you use, and the "elsewhere" place you put BK, is it filtered and heated? Just for some history, what are the tank mates, and are any of them showing any signs of sickness?

As far as the dead fish...its pretty normal when a fish dies for it to get pecked at, half eaten, by its tank mates. I wouldnt think anything unusual of its stomach missing, I would be concerned as to why it died.

Please list your ammonia, nitrite , and nitrate readings also.

My tank is ICH FREE, that I"m sure of. Been there done that unfortunately.

Unfortunately when we add new memebers to our tanks without quarantining them first, we really have no idea what they may bring in. This could be the early signs of ich, or, really anything. It really sounds like a poor water quality issue, maybe not in your tank , but from the transition from moving from the lfs to your tank.
