Flood in the hall

My dad's flowerhorn knocked the filter intake too hard and it tilted causing the water to be sprayed all over the hall at 2 am,the hall was wet all over,need advice on stopping it from happening again

sounds like a canister filter, yes?

if so putting the return lower into the water column would make it a little harder for the flowerhorn to cause the filter to spray everywhere.
