WOndering what my options would be here, It's an older 55gal Perfecto tank, currently have a percefto hood on it, with a coralife compact flourescent on top, want to open it up to get more light in there & get rid of the ugly hood.

Any ideas where I could get a canopy that fit (keep in mind there's no center brace so maybe a DIY woudl be the best idea...

Anyways, suggestions welcome, THANKS!

I might be wrong, but I thought the 55's could fit two 24inch glass covers...oh, duh no center brace. Well, that brace would be easy to construct/find. Use silicone to hold it in place. Then a single or double strip light that is 48 inches fits on top. I know the All Glass line of covers comes in ones meant for a single strip light to rest on top, and ones meant for their double strip lights to rest on top.

The cheapest way to go for lighting is to hang a double or triple shop light fixture on top, I suspended mine from nice wrought iron chains. (After I spray painted it black.) When I want to feed the fish I hook up the chains and raise the fixture. THis also makes it easy to clean the tank - the lights are still on and I have plenty of room. The shop light and 2 full spectrum bulbs all cost less than $20.
