I have a 20 gallon tank (still needs to be cleaned and cycled) but I am looking at it being a community tank. I have a betta I would like to put in there...what other fish can I put with him??

i've kept my male betta with danio any type would work the 2inch one's ...corydoras catfish they ignore eachother...neon dwarf rainbow fish altho your male will flare up at them so maybe not a good idea.. i've kept mine with keyhole cichlids for about a week got on good but my keyholes were only 1inch...if my betta wasn't dieing i'd keep him in a 10gallon with some corydoras and thats it.

A male betta should get along well with any fish normally described as "peaceful". Mine has been living quietly with Platys, Neons, Corys and (recently) two Dwarf Gouramis. Everyone pretty much ignores everyone else.

If I were starting a community tank today I would choose Platys, Mollies, Corys and Gouramis. Danios would be on the list if the tank were big enough for these fast graceful swimmers. Neons are pretty but unless you have a dozen or so you have to stand very close to the tank to see them.
