Didn't notice new cory has no barbels

Hey all

Well, I had all three kids with me at the fish store picking out one more cory for my tank. I didn't notice until I was home that he had no barbels. Sigh ...

Do I just go and exchange him or try to heal him???
Are barbel erosion signs of worse illnesses to come??
