Well, I finally did it.... got a 16g bow front going. Penguin 100 bio wheel on it with an air driven corner filter.... Got some seasoned bio balls to help, planted it with low light plants... Using a fine gravel substrate. Will post pics someday.

Have two corys doing fine in their new home and some snails already crawling around. So far so good.

The filter is a bit flaky...it stopped once on it's own and made some grinding noises from the impeller... I took it apart and checked it all out and put back together, and it's been fine since. I will have to keep my eye on it.

1st question is whether anyone has any experience with these: http://www.ahsupply.com/ I would like to get up to 2wpg and am hoping one of these retrofit kits is safe, though I could build my own sheet metal lamp enclosure.

2nd question.... typical, but In the coming weeks, I'd like to add some tank mates for the corys.... I've thought that I could add 1(ONE) set of the following.

3, maybe 4 Gourami - I'll have a larger tank soon
or
Some fancy guppies
or
rainbow fish or killies....

I'm leaning towards gouramis as I've never kept them before, and the 16g has about 16" of water depth....They seem to like it in the middle.

Guppies never amused me, as I always used them as feeders, but I think the wife would like the fancy ones. (wasn't married last I had tanks).

The rainbow fish and killies seem unique (to me), and I have to study up on them more, but the killies seem to like the top, which for my tank probably isn't ideal

I'll add an otto or two as well. That should give me a tank that isn't over crowded and easy to maintain.

If you think a school of other type fish would be nice, please suggest.

Ultimately, if I have my way this winter....I will be getting a 75g to 125g tank.

I know bow's need more then 16G. you may be fine with some dwarf species of gourami. I dont know much about killies, interesting fish though. filters can make a wonderful Grinding sound on startup. usually means low water level or an air pocket. Hope this helps you out some

Don't get rainbows... they are a schooling fish with a min of 6 ... I don't think theres any rainbow that'd be happy in a 16 as they are active, use the entire tank, and need lots of room.

Your cories will be alot happier with at least 4 more buddies--I added two more to my 4, and now they're all over the tank swimming and playing, instead of huddling under a rock!!

There are some species of rainbows small enough to live happily in a 16g. Threadfins should work, as well as a few other species.
