Okay I have a new old fish tank. I've had my brother inlaws fish tank at my house for about 3 weeks now. He helped me get it all set up and I went out and bought an algea eater, 2 angel fish, and 2 cat fish. Slowly one by one the 2 angel fish died, then one cat fish died, I got replacement angel fish and then some how my whole tank turned like a redish color on the rocks and walls. Then my algea eater climbed in a corner and wouldn't move for a few days and now it just died. :'( I'm so distraught I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I don't know what this red stuff is, or what to do with it???
I have 2 beautiful angel fish left and a small cat fish what do I do?

Well with the case of the algae eater. It might have been one that does not like red algae (which sounds like what your prollem is) So it was, like you said, backed into a corner with no food source...so hince it died.

What method did you use to cycle the tank before adding all that bioload to it?

did you check all of your params? Angelfish are normally pretty fragile but cory's do pretty well, unless the params weren't ideal

Its okay, we have all made mistakes. However, we need more info before we can help you out.
1. How big is the tank?
2. What else is in the tank? Heater, filter, etc.
3. Do you know how to cycle a tank? If so what are you doing to cycle it?
4. How much light does the tank get?
5. How much were you feeding?
6. Do you know how to test the tank water? If so what chemicals have you tested for?
7. How much and how often do you change the water?
Cycling is extremely important. Cycling basically means that the tank is building up a supply of good bacteria that will recycle fish wastes into less harmful forms. When a tank is uncycled fish are basically swimming in poison. If you do not know about cycling we can get you on the right track.
