I have two male bettas in separate 1/2 gal containers (waiting for their tanks to cycle) that I am medicating with Maracide and Maracyn 2 for velvet.
Last night I was supposed to put Maracyn 2 in @ 1 packet for 10 gallons. I mixed the packet with 10 teaspoons of water figuring that I could then use 1 teaspoon for 1 gal of water. That would have been fine if I was fixing a gallon to use for both of them as I normally do for water changes but....I don't know what I was thinking...since it wasn't the day for water changes, I just put 1 teaspoon in each of their containers. So I actually double dosed them with antiobiotic!
I didn't even realize it until this morning and as soon as I did I did a 50% water change on both -I use spring water so that wasn't a problem. I did notice when I fed them (before I realized I had over medicated) that they didn't seem to see the food like they ususally do. I mean they swam right past it but then it seemed like they smelled it more than actually saw it and they came back over and ate it. And one of them seemed to have red eyes. Could I have have blinded them? I feel terrible. I am going to kill these poor guys with kindness!
Anyone have any idea just how bad over medicating them is? Will they recover ...assuming the velvet doesn't get them?
Thanks,
MaryAlice
