SA cichlids

that depends on which cichlids you have in mind. the festae for example is considered one of the most aggressive cichlids around .. while many of the Geophagus species are generally mild mannered, relatively speaking.

well my walmart just got in a bunch of cichlid fry(dont know the species)that say south american and i didnt want them to all die.they are very young, they are all white and about 1/4 to maby 1/2 inch each ATM.

i was thinking about possibly getting one or two for my female betta tank but i didnt know if they were agressive or not.they are so cute and they are being fed tetra flakes at walmart.they are $3.00 each.

check out some of the cichlid profiles..do a search.
the petsmart near me got in a bunch of small cichlids about that same size..they turned out to be keyholes. very peaceful cichlid for the most part.

at this size it may be difficult to identify the species.

but simply labeling them sa cichlids leaves the door open to many cichlids..some of which are agressive some which are not as agressive.

i have always liked cichlids but i dont want something that will grow up to eat my bettas.

well the way I see if..if they grow up and turn out to be too aggressive..you can get another tank :)

cross your fingers..maybe they are one of the peaceful species.

all of the central/ south american cichlids I have would swallow a betta whole.

There are some that wouldnt, but you need to know what you're getting into first.

i would NOT count on Walmart to know anything about cichlids. while they are labeled south american, they might be anything at all. heck, they might not even be cichlids.

i'd definitely NOT purchase them until you know exactly what they are. they might turn out to be the type of fish that (a) eats everything in your tank and/or (b) grows to 2 feet and your tank cannot possibly house it.

you're not doing these fish any favors by taking them home without a thorough understanding of their requirements.
