John, I'd be very interested in buying some of your RCS. Question: if they lack a planktonic larval stage, will they start breeding on me? I'm not really interested in a population boom of cherry shrimp :D I'm used to ghosties whose babies were always eaten by my filter.
John N.
10-08-2006, 1:56 AM
Hi Paula, the pregnant cherries will give birth to free swimming cherries. There is no planktonic larval stage.

Risk - PM replied
Fishcatch22 - Can sell smaller quantities for $1.50 per shrimp. Add $5 for shipping. Money orders, personal checks, and cash are okay. However I do prefer Paypal.
Packages went out today, with more cherry shrimp available.

Three questions for you-
What water parameters do you keeps them at?
Do you keep any fish in with them, if not, do you know what is compatible with them?
How long does your offer stand?
John N.
12-12-2006, 6:48 PM
Thanks DrussRob, Carol, and Desert! I'm glad you got your shrimp in fine order. Take care of them. ;)
__________________________________
Cherry Shrimp are very hardy shrimp, and withstand most different water conditions. The main factor to be concerned about is maintaining constant water parameters.
My Water Parameters are:
Temp: 72-74
PH 6.8-7.2
KH 3
GH 4
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrates - zero
Recommend Fish:
Otos and Corycats are 100% shrimp safe. The rule of thumb is if the shrimp can fit in a fish's mouth, then it's likely going to eat it if it gets the chance. Providing lots of plant and decoration cover will minimize/stop the predation. I've kept shrimp with Endler's Livebearers and H.rasboras. Some baby shrimp get eaten every once in a while, but the population still grows.
I recommend starting a separate shrimp tank to get a stock of Cherries going before introducing a cherry population to a community tank. That way you will always have cherry shrimp in case they get eaten.

The offer stands as long as there is interest. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I only have a ten gallon tank, somewhat new to fish. After xmas I am either going to get a bigger tank and plant it or just decorate the current tank depending on how short on money I am and if I get any fish related stuff for xmas.
Fish it would be in would be something like mollies
Im not sure if I really dare to get them shipped in the winter, will the offer still stand in june?
Malbri

Oh and I got a message saying you sent me a private message but all these annoying blockers on my computer wont let me see it
John N.
12-12-2006, 6:59 PM
Ah, popup blockers. I was senting you a PM with payment information. Just shoot me a PM when you're ready to receive some. The offer will likely still be available in the spring.
I would be weary of keeping them housed with mollies though. I've seen mollys eat their own fry, so cherries might make tasty expensive snacks.

Would tetras be alright?
John N.
12-12-2006, 7:02 PM
If there is plenty of cover in terms of Plants, moss and decorations yes. But some baby shrimp might be eaten. See Post #35 (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=712455&postcount=35) for fish recommendations.

I know I am not john but I beleive that is a cristal red shrimp. He will be breeding them but when they will become available you will have to ask him.
John N.
12-20-2006, 12:26 PM
azadehm1 - That's for the compliments. I'm glad they all made it after a 5 day journey across country.
Fish_freak - Desertgoldhound is correct. They are crystal red shrimp, and currently unavailable at the moment. The population is still building up to where they are able to be sold. Right now cherry shrimp are the only shrimp I sell. But I do offer Endler's livebearers (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86703) if you're interested. ;)

how long do the cherry shrimp even live for, for shipping do u need 2 no our adress ? how big are they when being shipped?
John N.
12-20-2006, 4:34 PM
Kuhliloach - Cherry shrimp can live up to 1 year or so. The size of them when shipped out varies, but ranges up to half of an inch and smaller. This is the perfect size for safe shipping, and to ensure that the young shrimp will adapt well. I will need to know your mailing address in order for the package to be delivered. ;)

12-21-2006, 4:38 PM
hey john, do they eat algae? I was going to get more ghost shrimp to help me be finally rid of my hair algae, but they look a little... plain.
John N.
12-21-2006, 5:38 PM
Fish_Freak - My goal is to have a CRS population that is sellable sometime in the summer 2007.
Fishcatch22 - Cherry shrimp are excellent algae eaters. I see them picking at BBA on the intake pipes. I dropped in a thread/clado algae covered mat of pellia, and within a week the algae disappeared undered the swarm of cherries picking at it constantly.

12-21-2006, 7:06 PM
Im interestedi your cherry red shrimp im just wondering...I have a marimo ball...cladophora. Do you think they wil eat it ?
John N.
12-21-2006, 7:44 PM
Punkyduck - My guess is that they will pick at your marimo ball with the potential to eat the whole thing, but that's only if you have a 150 or more cherry shrimp in your tank like I do. So until your reach that point, that marimo ball will probably be okay, as I imagine the growth rate of the ball will be higher than the rate that the cherries can consume.

will these be ok with a betta in a 2.5 gallon for about 2 weeks till i get my 125 going. then ill move most of them.
and how is the crystal type coming along?
John N.
01-05-2007, 3:02 AM
Sorry for the delay everyone. Holiday rush, shopping and tending to family chewed up some of my time. But now I got some moments to spare. ;)
Evan, Bill is correct, Neocaridina denticulata sinensis or Cherry shrimp is what I have for sale currently. Crystal red Shrimp are different. Check out this site (http://www.petshrimp.com/shrimpspecies.html)for more information on the different freshwater shrimp available out there.
Daayda, I'll just sent you a couple of PMs with a deal, and payment info.
Brian, I wouldn't keep cherries with a betta. Though I never tried, I have a feeling that the betta would eat the shrimp. My crystal red shrimp tank is coming along great. I oversold the population a few months back, so things are slowly recovering, and it will be a while till I decide to sell (maybe summer).
Plenty of shrimp available, just let me know via PM or respond in the thread. Thanks guys!

02-13-2007, 4:49 PM
how risky is it to have these shipped in the winter?
NinjaPirate
02-13-2007, 10:02 PM
Depends on the temp. If your temp is regularily below freezing I don't recommend sending any aquatic animal. (My LFS just had some guppies come in with heatpacks that had ice in the bags recently...).
Shrimp and betta = not a good idea in general. With a very passive betta, lots of hiding spaces, and a shrimp that's big enough that the betta doesn't consider it food it's *possible* at best.
Just wanted to say I ordered a batch from John last month and they're great.

The yoyos will definately take out the shrimp population give soem time. The other fish may or may not leave the shrimp along as it depends on how much hiding cover is provided to the shrimp. But most likely the little baby cherries will get picked off.

I ordered shrimp from John this weekend, and he shipped it out first thing on Monday. Since I'm in Hawaii, priority took 4 days to get here, but there were no casualties. I just received my shipment of cherry reds and crystal reds from John and let me tell you, he's a pleasure to do business with and his shrimp are fantastic! He packages them very very well and shipping was very quick. All in all, I couldn't be happier! If you are even thinking about getting shrimp, he's definitely the guy to get them from! Thanks so much John!

I received my cherry shrimp on Monday along with a huge plant that I had requested. The shrimp are all great. They colored up only minutes after I started acclimating them. Such bright reds. They're all very active and living well in my 10 gallon aquarium. This is the best picture I've go so far. Took my like 20 shots before I got it...

And that's not even the brightest one ^_^ John was a pleasure to do business with.
