Would like to try fishless cycling without using ammonia. I read that you can put fish food in the tank to create ammonia. I have Bio Spira in the fridge ready to put on the bio wheel but I wanted to make sure I get enough ammonia (with the fish food) in to feed the bacteria before I put the Bio Spira in and end up wasting it. I am using Hikari Betta Bio-Gold Pellets. Can anyone tell me how many pellets to put in a 3 gallon tank each day?

I understand from other posts that you can add fish right away using Bio Spira but I would like to be on the safe side and make sure ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are there before I put the betta in the tank.

Can anyone tell me how much food to use? :dive2:

Thanks,
MaryAlice

BioSpira is made to be added at the same time as the fish, and it takes the place of the regular "cycling" process. If you add Ammonia to the tank without the BioSpira, you are just doing a regular fishless cycle. The waste the fish you are supposed to put in produce is what feeds the BioSpira. As long as you follow the instructions, you should be fine.

Just a pich of food. You'll be suprised how much ammonia a little bit of rotten fish food can produce.

Please follow the directions on the package for your bio-spira. It is a shame to waste a product that works and is so expensive.
